Why Are My Teeth Sensitive After My Dental Visit? – Part One

Different Procedures Can Cause Sensitivity

Have you ever felt your teeth suddenly becoming sensitive when you have just gone to your dentist?

This is a rather common sensation following a trip to the dentist where a procedure was carried out. During routine office procedures, one can expect a certain degree of tooth sensitivity as the sensitive tissues of the teeth and gums have been agitated. The good news is that the sensitivity is only temporary and will subside after several days.

Know why certain procedures can cause sensitivity, what to expect, and how to care for your teeth before and after your visit.

You had a deep cleaning.

Every 6 months, you go for an in-office deep cleaning of your teeth as ordinary, daily brushing and flossing cannot eliminate hard-to-remove tartar. To deep clean your teeth, your dentist must go above and below the gum line to remove all of the plaque and tartar.

Tooth sensitivity happens when gums recede to expose the underlying roots of the tooth. You will feel most or all of your teeth become sensitive, your gums may be swollen, tender, or may bleed. This sensitivity can last for up to two weeks.
